• Follow my cursor: now and then your pet comes over to sit under your pointer. It walks along the bottom of the screen, hops up onto the window you're pointing at when it can jump that high (the parrot just flies), looks up at you with a wag, and follows again when you move on. Choose how often in Settings › Behaviour: Off, Sometimes (the default) or Often. Off also stops it chasing or pouncing at your cursor.

The first public release. DeskPet is a little pet that lives on your Mac's desktop: you adopt it, name it and look after it, and it lives its own life along the bottom of your screen and on top of your windows.

• Six species to adopt: cat, dog, bunny, hamster, panda and parrot, each with its own colours, foods, habits, voice and signature move.
• Real needs, real time: food, water, energy, fun, cleanliness, health and your bond. Needs change while your Mac is asleep or DeskPet is closed, and vacation mode pauses everything while you're away.
• Care from the menu bar: feed, water, play, brush, bathe, give medicine, clean up and put to bed from the paw icon, or click your pet on the desktop.
• Lives on your desktop: it wanders, naps, climbs onto windows, perches on your favourite app, runs along the menu bar, chases your cursor and loves a good stroke.
• Grows with you: from baby to senior over weeks and months, and how you care for it shapes its body, coat and personality.
• Pick your care style: Cozy (never leaves), Runs away (after days of neglect) or Realistic.
• Sounds, only when you want them: synthesized pet sounds play only with headphones by default, and can be switched on or off entirely.
• Guard mode (optional): while your Mac is locked, your pet growls at anyone who touches it and tells you about it when you're back.
• Automatic updates: DeskPet checks for new versions once a day. You can also use Check for Updates… from the menu bar icon's right-click menu or in Settings.

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
